about

I wrote this song for my wife's birthday. I had planned to play it for her at the Ruby Sessions, but we ended off spending that day in the hospital, learning that we had miscarried. You can read where the song changed.

Recorded in Ben Rawlins studio with my guitar and vocal all together. We then downsized, because of pandemic and Ben brought his equipment into the only space we could get that could fit four people safely, the old practice room I spent so many years rehearsing with my old band. That morning my brother recorded all the strings for his album. We sat and had food together and went back out the record what I had written for my album. It was the final piece of the puzzle. The rest is history.

lyrics

It was easy to buy a ring

Pull out my pockets, sift through the lint

But you’re giving me more than I

Can repay in more short life

I wish I could give you more than this

Cause eight pounds won’t compare to anything

That I could give

So I will sing ‘til my lungs give out

There’s so much we can expect

And it’s thanks to you now I’ll get

A chance to know my Dad

Felt holding me in his hands

I wish I could give you more than this

Cause eight pounds won’t compare to anything

That I could give

So I will sing ‘til my lungs give out

With one born every minute

A heart starts on the clock

I’ll lay my chest on you baby

And pretends it’s hasn’t stopped

I hope that you still feel it

That forever you’re a mother

I’ll lay my chest on you baby

And pretend it’s his or hers

And pretend it’s his or hers.

Pretend it’s his or hers.

Learning piano from the age of 5, music became an essential part of James' life and it only expanded when finding the guitar and other instruments. With music being a medium in which James could process tragedy or moments of elation, it became an integral part of his life.

Baby Farm is out now, the crops are ready for harvest and the livestock are screaming.
