about

For my Ma.

I wrote the lyrics on the back of a coffee order stolen from the till in the middle of a busy Saturday service. I had the melody and the chords, but I wasn't sure what I sing about. It all just spilled out of me, quick enough that nobody noticed.

lyrics

Is heaven just a photograph that’s animate and speaks

I’d relay all of my dreams to you now I’m conscious that I can think

Cause I stare in those eyes those deep brown eyes and just wish you knew me now

How bad it must have been to see silver lines in a shroud

Cause I don’t wanna sell my soul

Have I got a soul I can sell

I’m holding on to the unknown

So I might just see you again

I dream up all the ways that I could have held him at our door

An extra second in embrace could have kept him wanting more

If you saw how much my mother cried you’d too believe in God

Without God we won’t get the chance to see him when we’re gone

Cause I don’t wanna sell my soul

Have I got a soul I can sell

I’m holding on to the unknown

So I might just see you again

I’m learning all I can from Mom about who you were in life

Cause I’ve spent twenty years or more reliving how you died

You must have been some man to win over my mother’s heart

If all I take from your mistake is good women should rule the world

Baby Farm is out now, the crops are ready for harvest and the livestock are screaming.
