about

I would travel down to Monasterevin every weekend after a long shift at work, the car packed full of gear and an album or two ready to listen too. Quite often, I would just end of listening to Five Leaves Left by Nick Drake and my soul was soothed.

The fun part of recording was the percussion and the electric guitar. With the electric guitar I grabbed a beautiful 335 which had been left in a weird tuning, placed a glove that had been keeping me warm during the winter frost underneath the strings to mute them and the riff just blurted itself out. I wanted it to sound like Pharell Williams Happy meets Nick Drakes Time has Told me.

lyrics

Are we just drawn by the warmth of a bed

Like moths to a flame but the embers are wet

Is loneliness just some kind of regret

We live in the moment ‘til something is said

I couldn’t even give you the time it takes to look in the mirror

Cause I don’t know if I’ll be coming home

I’m driving off in the car that we bought

You said it was needed for the child that we lost

You’re getting smaller but growing is guilt

For leaving us broken without one final kiss

I couldn’t even give you the time it takes to look in the mirror

Cause I don’t know if I’ll be coming home

I’ve never left too scared of the cost

Cause I’d just be leaving the part of me that everyone loves

I’ve never left too scared of the cost

Cause I’d just be leaving the part of me that everyone loves

I’ve never left too scared of the cost

Cause I’d just be leaving the part of me that everyone loves

I guess that I’ll be coming home

Learning piano from the age of 5, music became an essential part of James' life and it only expanded when finding the guitar and other instruments. With music being a medium in which James could process tragedy or moments of elation, it became an integral part of his life.

Baby Farm is out now, the crops are ready for harvest and the livestock are screaming.
